the cold. Grace has spent years watching the wolves behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf - her wolf- watches back. He feels deeply familiar to her, but she doesn't know why.
the heat. Sam has lived two lives. As a wolf, he keeps the silent company of the girl he loves. And then, for a short time each year, he is human, never daring to talk to Grace... until now.
the shiver. For Grace and Sam, love has always been kept at a distance. But once it's spoken, it cannot be denied. Sam must fight to stay human- and Grace must fight to keep him- even if it means taking on the scars of the past, the fragility of the present and the impossibility of the future.
Sorry guys. I know it's been a while since I've reviewed a book as school has been taking up a lot of my time. Some time last year, I wrote a post about the Shiver trilogy and that one day I would get around to reviewing them. Well, today is that day. This is not the first time I have read Shiver. It's probably about my fourth time! I love this book so much and it never gets old. The story is so alive, it's magical. I never fail to be impressed by Maggie Stiefvater's writings. The one thing I love most about this book is the way it's written. The story swaps back and forth between Grace's and Sam's points of views so you get an insight into what both of them are feeling. I love books like that. Now, I know what you are thinking. Just another werewolf book, right? Another copy if Twilight? That's what I thought too. But I can honestly say that this book has absolutely nothing in common with Steph Meyer's novels, (aside from the werewolf thing).
It is a close to perfect example of undying love, how Grace and Sam can still fall in love even though they are different species. Those three words don't come close to expressing how those two really feel about each other. Their desperate attempts to stay together are beautiful and it shows that they would risk anything- even their lives- if it means being together forever. A beautifully written novel that unravels into a heart-wrenching finale, Shiver is one story sure to stay with you long after the last page has been turned.
